Week One Assignment: Postcard from the Grand Canyon
Technical Details:
Todd gave us a challenge here with both the picture size and quality. To render this series as an electronic greeting card took more than a hand off from Photoshop to flash-- first, we needed to "defeature" and resize the photos in Photoshop and Paint (50%, 50%, 80%), then resave down to a reasonable pixel quality to play on the web without taking a month to load and resolve.
Normal banner Flash wouldn't work for these nearly square photos without ruining their beauty, so we chose a "greeting card" size of 550 x 400 pixels.
The "Spring" shot was pretty, but we did a "curtain flip" effect to make it more of a tease. The "click image" would then be a "click to see the whole picture" to pay off the tease, but here, just for the class, the click goes back to the Todd's class site.
Once we learn layers and lasso's, we'll post the static version too! (NOTE: For you web types, Todd's original shots were about 9 meg. A good photo editor is needed if you want these to resolve, and although that resolution is great for print, we reduced the entire series below to below 1.5 K, or it would take forever to load)!
